For a translation to be accepted by USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services), it must meet the following requirements:

1. Complete and Accurate Translation

  • The translation must be a full, word-for-word translation of the original document.
  • No information should be omitted, added, or altered.

2. Certification Statement

  • The translator must provide a certification letter stating that the translation is accurate and that they are qualified to translate the document.
  • The certification must include:
    • A statement confirming the accuracy of the translation.
    • The translator’s full name, signature, address, and date.
    • A statement that the translator is competent in both the source and target languages.

3. Format Similar to the Original Document

  • The translated document should mirror the format of the original (including names, dates, and sections).

4. Must Be in English

  • USCIS only accepts translations into English.

5. No Notarization Required (Unless Specifically Requested)

  • USCIS does not require notarization of the translation, but some applicants choose to have it notarized for added credibility.
